The Channel F Fairchild Video Entertainment System was released in 1976, one year before the Atari VCS 2600 was released. The German version of the system was distributed by Saba and was called the VideoPlay.
It was the first home video game system to have interchangable cartridges, or videocarts as they were called. It was also the first system to have cartrigdes that store multiple games, like Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt for the NES. The buttons of the front of the system allow access to the different programs that are stored on a cartridge.
The system has two controllers that can be stored inside the top of the system. The controllers feature a joystick that can be depressed like the X-box's thumb stick. A new version of the system was released in 1979, called the Channel F System II. It is slightly smaller than the original unit. The controllers clip on the back of the unit. |
