In 1978 Mattel released several electronic handheld games.
These games do not have screens, but rather represent the action with LEDs on a painted playing field.
Today this may look quite crude, but considering the limitations of the console systems of the time, the 'graphics' are not bad.
The games are eminently portable as they only measure 6" by 3" and run for hours on a single 9-volt battery.
They also feature a built-in speaker to provide sound FX.
Football and Basketball games were also released.
Recently Mattel rereleased these games and they may be found in major retailers everywhere.
