PS2 Archive

Sony had incredible success with the original Playstation thanks to its outstanding graphics. However, they took quite a while to release another system. In that time Nintendo released the N64, and Sega brought out the Dreamcast. Both of these systems outperformed the venerable Playstation. Seemingly at the perfect time, just before the Playstation could not carry the market, Sony released the PS2. It was an amazing machine that outperformed all of the other current consoles. They also made the very wise decision to make the system backwarly compatible with the original PS1 games. They quickly gained a large installed user base that kept them at the head of the pack throughout the life of the console.

The design was unorthodox in that the unit could be laid out flat like a DVD player or stoodup vertically. In fact the only previous video game system to adopt a tower configuration was the PC-FX. Over the years several accessories were made for the PS2. Most notable amonst these were the Eye Toy which was a small video camera that would let you interact with the games. Another important accessory was the hard drive.
