| Review of Shadow War of Succession for the 3DO | |
Is it one of your goals in life to collect every single fighting game ever produced? If so, then you must buy this game. Do you think that Karate Champ was the best fighting game ever made? Then you should buy this game. Are you a huge fan of digitized graphics, and CGI backgrounds? Then you should buy this game. Otherwise, you should probably buy another fighter like Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Way of the Warrior, or Samurai Showdown. Well, obviously you really want to know more about this game. The story goes that the head of the Syndicate for Hate, Anarchy, Destruction, and Organized Warfare, or Shadow for short, has just been assassinated. Seven of his deadliest lieutenants vie to take his place. Who will survive to become the next Shadow King? Shadow War of Succession is one of those games that looks cool, but does not play very well. I like the characters, they have a dark flavor that fits the game well. The backgrounds are well done, and really bring out the pathos of the game. Even the special effects, like fireballs and blood, look great. Like the Art of Fighting, Shadow makes use of scaling to zoom you right in on the action. However, despite all of these things, the game just does not play very well. It is a little on the slow side, and the controls are not quite on. It is not even worth mentioning any element of balance in the fighting system or its characters as the controls prevent the game from reaching such levels. However, if you just like to tear things up on screen and want to play something different then you could give Shadow War of Succession a try. Here is a list of the special moves.
