Sega Saturn box
The Sega Saturn was released in 1994 and followed right on the heels of the 32X. It was Sega's first stand alone conslole since the Genesis.

The Saturn has eight processors. The first is a System Control Unit. It uses two Hitachi SH2 32-bit RISC processors running at 28.6MHz as its main processors. The Saturn has a Hitachi SH1 32-bit RISC co-processor. It has two custom video display processors. VDP 1 has dual 256 kilobyte frame buffers for rotation and scaling effects. It can texture map, and has Goraud shading. It has a 512 kilobyte cache for textures. It can produce 200,000 texture mapped polygons per second. VDP 2 supports 5 simultaneous scrolling backgrounds and 2 rotating playfields. It renders animation at 60 frames per second. It has 24-bit true color graphics. The system has a resolution of 704x480 pixels.

The Saturn has two sound processors
(1) a Motorola 68EC000 sound processor running at 11.3 MHz;
and (2) a SCSP sound processor running at 22.6 MHz.
The Motorola has 8 frequency modulation channels and a 44.1KHz sampling rate. The SCSP has 32 pulse code moduation channels.

The system boasts 2 megabytes of RAM, 1.54 megabytes of VRAM, and 540 kilobytes of audio RAM. It has a 512 kilobyte cache for the CD-ROM.

The Saturn has a double speed CD-rom drive and cart expansion slot. It also has a high speed serial port, and internal expansion port. It features various types of output including s-video, rgb, hdtv, A/V/ and RF.
