Sega Master System Archive

Like Nintendo, Sega was an established Japanese entertainment company. In the early 80s they began to produce video games such as Zaxon. They then went into the console business and produced three systems for the Japanese market. The last was known as the SG 1000 Mark III and was released in 1985. In 1986 Sega brought the console to America and renamed it the Master System. Like the NES it is an 8-bit system and has a joypad.

The SMS uses a Z80 cpu running at 4 MHz. The original system has both cartridge and card slots. The system has various accessories including 3D glasses, and a light phaser.
