In 1987 The Narita Electronics Company released the P.C. Engine in Japan. It was marketed as the first 16-bit video game system. This is somewhat deceptive as it features dual 8-bit processors rather than a 16-bit proceesor. However, the system outperformed the current 8-bit systems, and gave the later 16-bit systems a run for their money. The American version of the system was called the Turbo Grafx 16, or TG 16 for short. Not being in the software business like Nintendo and Sega, NEC purchased Hudson Soft, the makers of Bonk. This secured the future of their system. |
