Despite its superior hardware, the X-Box was firmly in second place behind the PS2. One reason for this was that the PS2 was released before the X-Box and had a large user base. Microsoft wanted to ensure that this did not happen again, so it released the X-Box 360 a full year before the PS3. Unfortunately in their rush to release the console, they failed to notice a hardware flaw. Many of the systems are prone to overheat. In the year before the PS3 was released few killers apps were made for the 360. Thus when the PS3 and wii were released Microsoft's lead in installed user base began to shrink rapidly. Microsoft is now trying to keep its lead. They released a high defintion 360 to compete with the PS3. They also released an addition to play high defition videos. To help eleviate consumer fears about the overheating problem, Microsoft has extended the warranty on new X-Box 360's to three full years. |
